Ghanaians lack confidence – Rashid Pelpuo

The Minister of State in charge of Public-Private Partnerships Rashid Pelpuo has said Ghanaians lack the confidence required to start major businesses.

According to him, Ghanaian businessmen often seek contracts under the shadow of foreigners and foreign expertise.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Wednesday, the Wa Central MP said there is the need for the state to work on the capacity of Ghanaians to enable them acquire the confidence needed to take on significant tasks.

“…They (Ghanaians) don’t have the confidence. Normally they will have to rely on foreign expertise who will lead them or who they will lead to you and say we can do it.

“And they come to tell you ‘these people they have a lot of money, I will partner them to do it’, but you can’t see a Ghanaian taking the lead and say I have the money; they always have a patron somewhere who will direct them as to what to do,” the former Sports minister said.

He continued: “So we need to develop and build the capacity of the Ghanaian to have the feeling that I can do it. I can also go out there and get some funding to do it”.
