Ghanaians in US present 205 mathematics books to UEW

Winneba (C/R), May 12, GNA – Two Visiting Ghanaian Scholars of the University of Vermont in the United States on Thursday presented 205 pieces of various books on mathematics, including the Calcus, costing 20 million cedis to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to enhance teaching and learning at the University.

They were Professor Daniel Bentsil and Mr Samuel Asiedu-Addo. Presenting the books on behalf of his colleague, Mr Asiedu-Addo observed that their experience in the United States revealed that teaching and learning in that country was very easy due to availability of books and facilities.

According to them, since books are very difficult to come by in Ghana, especially, at the universities, they jointly decided to mobilize funds for the books.

Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, Vic Chancellor of the UEW, who received the books thanked the donors for their kind gesture and appealed for more of such assistance.

Professor Anamuah-Mensah hoped that the books would play a meaningful role to help the University achieve its aims and objectives. The Dean of Science of the University, Dr. Kofi Mereku said the donation had been made at a time when the university was not having enough mathematics books.

According to him textbooks play an important role in education and therefore, promised to take good care of the books. Among those present was the Pro-Vic Chancellor of the University, Professor Jonas Akpanglo-Nartey.
