Ghanaians in Minnesota celebrate 49th Independence

Ghanaians living in the state of Minnesota celebrated Ghana?s 49th independence on March 11 2006 at the Shoreview community center. The theme for the occasion was: ?The power of U. Living the American dream and helping back at home?

In his keynote address, Dr Oheneba Boachie-Adjei stressed on the need for Ghanaians living outside Ghana to stretch for their hands in whatever way they can in helping the motherland. Dr Boachie-Adjei, an orthopedic, surgeon, showed the audience slides of what he has been doing with his charity group, FOCOS. The group goes to Ghana every year to offer free surgery to children with orthopedic problems. He indicated that every Ghanaian could do something no matter how small to help our country Ghana.

In his address, the President of The Ghanaian Association of Minnesota-GhanAM- Eddie Frempong delivered what audience called the ?We were there? speech. The president went back to history, starting from the Congo crisis, running through Liberia, Sierra Leone, and the Cote D?voire and showed to the audience that Ghana was always there to offer assistance to her African neighbors. The essence of his speech was it is now time for us to be there for our country Ghana.

The wife of Dr Boachie-Adjei later cut the anniversary cake with assistance from Mrs. Sandra kweson. Dr Oheneba Boachie-Adjei was later presented with a plaque honoring him as the first president of the Ghanaian Association of Minnesota (GhanAM)

Music was provided by ace DJ Kwaku Adu with Kwami Ahelegbe as the MC for the occasion
