The chairman of the People’s National Convention Bernard Mornah has downplayed claims that Ghanaians hate honest people.
Mr. Mornah told Francis Abban on Morning Starr in reaction to the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s earlier submission, describing Ghanaians as people who hate “honest persons.”
“So if we sow beans and we expect that we go and reap maize then we are wrong but I am not sure that our society abhors honest people,” Mornah noted.
He said he sides with the veteran politician on that angle.
“But I am not sure that our society abhors honest people; indeed our society uphold and they respect and value honest people,” he added.
“And you know, they can see when you are speaking out of your heart; when you are talking about the issues and you are manifesting them.
“Some people will meet you… it’s not everybody that will appreciate your honesty but you cannot say the society in general doesn’t appreciate honest people,” Mornah stated.
Mr. Bagbin addressing participants at a youth mentoring program organized by the National Youth Authority (NYA) at Wa said that “Ghanaians treat people who speak the truth with disdain.”
Mr. Mornah said the statement made by the veteran politician may be “right” but he equally believes that society really uphold, respect and value honest people.
