Ghanaians divided over Mills’ burial at Flagstaff House

A cross-section of Ghanaians interviewed by Today correspondents following the announcement that the late President John Evans Atta Mills will be buried at the Flagstaff House in Accra have expressed mixed feelings.

While some have welcomed the news insisting that burying President Mills at the Flagstaff House will be a great honor to be done him, some could not agree with that decision.

According to those who disagree with government’s decision to bury the president at the Flagstaff House, President Mills while alive vouched not to have anything to do with the state facility.

They argued that since the late president took that stance and even had some harsh criticisms for the facility, it will not be right to bury him there.

“I don’t buy the idea that late President Mills should be buried at the Flagstaff House. The reason is that while he was alive he despised the facility and resolved not to work there. So why do we have to bury him there?”Agya Mensah had this to tell Today when he was interviewed.

Madam Ekua Essoun said: “This is pure double standards. These are the same people who lashed out at the former government when it built the Flagstaff House, but now they are telling us that they will bury President Mills there.”

Emmanuel Manu, a resident in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, noted that the leadership of the NDC should bow down their heads in shame for saying filthy things about the Flagstaff House when it was built.”**
