Ghanaians commended for incident-free eclipse viewing

Accra, March 29, GNA – The National Planning Committee on the Awareness and Education on the Solar Eclipse on Wednesday commended the public for an incident-free event.

It commended Ghanaians, friends of Ghana, tourists and all who through discipline and adherence to the dos and don’ts contributed to a successful event.

A statement signed by Mr Ferdinand Ayim, Chairman of the Committee, said the Committee was putting together statistics to show how many tourists made it to the country for the solar eclipse and related matters.

The entry of the solar eclipse into Africa through Ghana, Mr Ayim said, had provided a Divine and celestial confirmation of Ghana as a gateway to Africa.

“The discipline and comportment demonstrated have also confirmed the ability of the Ghanaian to comprehend issues and do what is right when so challenged.”

The Committee commended the media for the relentless efforts made to assist in educating the public on the event. “We also wish to thank our corporate partners, particularly Pepsi Cola, Ghana International Airline, Ghana Telecom, Somovision Ghana Limited, TIGO and all those whose support provided the financial muscle for the National Planning Committee to tackle the responsibility assigned to it.”

Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City, in an interview expressed gratitude to God and happiness that the event had passed successfully.

“I am very happy that we have experienced this rare phenomenon, which may be once in a lifetime. I am especially happy that there were no clouds in the sky to obstruct people from watching the wonderful event,” he said.
