Ghanaians asked to pay taxes regularly

Akim Oda, June 18, GNA- The Akim Oda District Pastor of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, the Reverend David Frempong-Boateng has called on Ghanaians to fulfil their tax obligations regularly to enable the government to mobilise enough revenue for the provision of social amenities.

He said the evasion of taxes by people in the informal sector and under-invoicing to the detriment of the national economy, could no longer be tolerated “if the nation is to move forward”. Rev. Frempong-Boateng made the call when he led a team of the Eastern Regional Executive of the Church to inspect a school project at Akim Oda initiated by the Church.

The team also inspected schools belonging to the Church at Akim Akroso, Akim Achease, Akim Asene, Akim Ntronang and Nkawarteng. Rev. Frempong-Boateng said the Church had acquired land at Akim Oda for the building of first and second cycle schools to complement efforts being made by government in providing educational facilities. The Regional Superintendent of the Church, Rev. Alex Ofori Amankwaah urged the Church and the State to promote good governance and ensure accountability towards national development.

Rev. Amankwaah said the Church had established the Eastern Assemblies of God, Ghana Foundation, a non-governmental organization in Koforidua, to promote sexual abstinence among the youth to help reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The Regional Secretary, Rev. Henry Ofori told the GNA that primary school teachers in the Region had been sensitised on HIV/AIDS to enable them to assist in the preventing of the spread of the disease adding that “abstinence clubs” had also been formed in the schools.
