Ghanaians amassing wealth dubiously – Dr Jinapor

A senior lecturer at the University of Education, Dr Ahmed Jinapor, has observed that several people in Ghana are suspiciously amassing wealth for themselves without anybody questioning the source.

According to Dr Jinapor, some people who earn “GHS1000 or below a month” are putting up huge mansions and buying luxury vehicles, but nobody has had the audacity to question how they made the money to undertake such projects. Rather, they are being celebrated.”

He was making this point to expose the level at which corruption had eaten into the social fabric of the Ghanaian society.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on the morning of Saturday May 14, Dr Jinapor noted that corruption permeates every fabric of the society. He said they could come in various forms such as bribery and patronage.

He suggested that more efforts will need to be put in to deal with the canker in Ghana.

Commitment and leadership, he said, were needed to deal with it. “The laws are there, but you need commitment and leadership to implement it. The onus lies on the president…leadership by example,” insisted Dr Jinapor, adding: “We should not and cannot tolerate corruption in Ghana.”
