Ghanaians already disappointed with Akufo-Addo – NDC

Ghanaians are already disappointed with the performance of the Akufo-Addo-led government three months after the NPP took over power, the opposition National Democratic Congress has said.

Addressing a press conference Wednesday, Chairman of the NDC, Kofi Portuphy stated that majority of Ghanaians who contributed to the overwhelming victory of the NPP have already lost confidence in the three-month old administration due to the several controversies that has rocked the Akufo-Addo government.

“I am optimistic that the NDC can regain power in 2020, Ghanaians are disappointed in the NPP government,” Mr. Portuphy said, adding “the mood of the nation has been one of fear and insecurity since the NPP took office.”

Mr. Portuphy also condemned the NPP government for the arbitrary manner in which several public servants have been sacked since January 7. In the view of Mr. Portuphy such mass dismissals of public servants perceived to be NDC members does not augur well for future governments.

“Many public officers have been sacked just because they were appointed by the NDC government…the actions of the NPP government means that every public officer must be replaced when a new party is elected.”

Mr. Portuphy also condemned the actions of NPP vigilante groups saying the NDC will resist any attempt by the NPP to govern the country with fear and cohesion.
