Ghanaians advised to patronize wholesome livestock

An officer at the Veterinary Service Department of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture says Ghanaians should be on the look-out for unwholesome and diseased livestock when buying them for consumption.

Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Tuesday, Dr Bashiru Boye Kikimoto said patrons should shun livestock that appear sick and dull.

He said in selecting livestock and birds for consumption, the manner in which the animals stand should be among factors to consider in getting them from their owners.

He added that buyers should make sure no liquid is oozing out of any orifice of the animal.

When those checks are done, buyers will be assured of healthy meat this Christmas.

Dr Kikimoto said in case of doubt, the advice of veterinary doctors must be sought.
