Ghanaians advised to learn French

Takoradi, Oct 25, GNA – The French Ambassador to Ghana, Pierre Jacquemot, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to learn the French Language in addition to English.

He said the global nature of the world economies, coupled with development and regular uses of information, communication and technology (ICT), demands that everyone becomes multi-lingual to facilitate communication.

Mr Jacquemot said this at the inauguration of an 85-million-cedi renovated building of the Alliance Francaise in Takoradi on Tuesday. He said the French speaking community in Ghana was ready and willing to assist Ghanaians to learn the language.

The Ambassador called on French teachers to research more into the language to make them effective in their delivery.

Mrs Georgina Baiden, Proprietress of the Nest School, said all Ghanaians must learn to speak French to facilitate their movements in neighbouring French speaking countries.

She said many private schools in the region had started teaching French and needed literature and other materials to make the teaching of the subject more effective.

The centre, which was established in Takoradi in 1973, is aimed at bringing together people who are willing to contribute to the linguistic and cultural development of the French language among non-French speaking countries.
