Ghanaians abroad to fund Akufo-Addo’s campaign

Some Ghanaians in the Diaspora say they are ready to fund campaign efforts of the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to unseat President John Mahama in the 2016 presidential election.

Nana Yaw Agyapong, a France-based Ghanaian, who gave the hint said a strong contingent of Ghanaians in the Diaspora remain supportive of Nana Akufo-Addo’s bid to ascend to the presidential stool and his ideas to bring back the economy of the country on track.

He told DAILY GUIDE that many Ghanaians abroad had become apprehensive about the mismanagement of the economy in the midst of the power crisis and wanted to mobilise support and money for the presidential candidate.

He disclosed that the potential donors had confidence in Nana Addo’s capability to make things work again and was evidence of people’s unhappiness with Mahama and his government.

Nana Agyapong, who described himself as a coordinator of the will-be donors, demanded the national executive officers to open a local bank account to receive their monthly stipends.

“We’re ready to donate bountifully and willingly. All that we demand of the NPP leaders is to open a local bank account in Ghana and name it ‘NPP and Akufo-Addo D’ase 2016 Account’ and announce it to the public,” he noted.

“We support Akufo-Addo because of the state of the economy and the president’s failure to make lives better for Ghanaians in the midst of abundant natural resources with the latest being the oil,” he said.
