Accra, July 31, GNA – Professor Atukwei Okai, Secretary-General of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) is leading a six-member delegation of Ghanaian writers to Libya to participate in a symposium on Afro-Arab cultural relations.
The international symposium taking place in Sirte, from July 31, to August 4, 2005 is on the theme: “The future of Arab-African cultural relations and the African writers in the Diaspora”.
A statement signed by Bright Blewu, GJA General Secretary, said the delegation which arrived in Tripoli on Friday, July 29, 2005 is made up of Kojo Gyinaye Kyei, a poet, architect and a past president of the Ghana Association of Writers, Ajoa Yeboah Afari, President of the Ghana Journalists Association and the editor of the Ghanaian Times and Alex Agyei-Agyiri, a poet, novelist and lawyer.
The rest are Manu Herbstein, a novelist and an engineer, Margaret Safo, whose pen name is Peggy Oppong, a novelist and editor of the Mirror and JE Allotey-Pappoe, poet, public relations practitioner and president of the Federation of African Public Relations Associations. Writers from other parts of Africa will join their Ghanaian counterparts at the symposium.
