Ghanaian Union Germany donates

…medical items to Effia-Nkwanta hospital.
Sekondi November 27,-GNA- The Ghana Union Mannheim and Lufwigshafen, a Ghanaian Non-Profit organisation based in West Germany, at the weekend donated four Dialysis machines used in the treatment of kidney ailments, thirty hospital beds and five bed cabinets to Effia-Nkwanta regional hospital at Sekondi.

Mr. George Essel Haizel, vice president of the organisation presented the items to Mr. Asare Bediako Micah, head of administration of the hospital at a ceremony.

In a speech, Mr. Haizel said the organisation has also donated 21 hospital beds and 15 bed cabinets to the Koforidua Government Hospital and 10 hospital beds and 15 cabinets to the Hohoe Government hospital. He said the donated items to the three hospitals cost on point two billion cedis.

Mr. Haizel hoped the items would serve their purpose of helping the needy and supplement the efforts of the beneficiary hospitals in providing excellent medical care to the people.

He said the aims of the organisation include offering assistance to needy institutions and individuals in Ghana, adding that it has constructed a 10-seater KVIP for the Ahmadiyya primary school near Suhum and is planning to construct a Vocational and Information Technology School at Suhum.

Mr. Micah thanked the organisation for its assistance to the hospital to improve health care and comfort of patients because most hospital’s beds and bed cabinets are old and worn out.

He also commended CEBAF, a non-governmental organisation for helping to bring the items into the country and called on organisations and individuals to emulate the Ghanaian NGO in Germany.

During a visit to the X-Ray Department of the hospital, Mr. Solomon Tagoe, the Deputy Chief Radiographer, said the mammography, the screening unit and most essential equipment at the department broke down five years ago.

He said spare parts for the equipment cannot be obtained because the company, which manufactures them, is no longer in existence. Mr. Tagoe said a mobile X-Ray used for patients in the wards is the only equipment been used in the department and patients in serious conditions have to be conveyed to the department while others are referred to other hospitals.
