Ghanaian Troops In Sierra Leone Top Them All

The Ghanaian battalion serving with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Sierra Leone, Ghanbatt 7 came first in a special Inter-Sector drill competition organised by UNAMSIL in Freetown last weekend.

They beat five other contingents in the keenly-contested competition to clinch the coveted first position.

Participating battalions were Nibatt 14 from Nigeria and Ghanbatt 7(Ghana) which represented Sector West of UNAMSIL, Nepbatt 3(Nepal)and Banbatt 8(Bangladesh) representing Sector Center. The other comeptitors reprtesentimg Sector East were from Pakistan and Zambia.

The aggregate marks of the two battalions, Ghana and Nigeria which placed third, made Sector West commanded by Brigardier-General Steve Guar, of Nigeria, the overall winners.

In an earlier drill competition Ghanbatt 7, which is under the command of Lt. Colonel Braimah Musah, came first and thus won the right to represent its sector.

Speaking at a reception in honour of the officers and men of Ghanbatt 7, Ghana’s High Commisioner to Sierra Leone, Kabral Blay-Amihere commended them for keeping the flag of Ghana high and said that all Ghanaians will be proud of their achievement.

H.E. Blay-Amihere urged Ghanaian troops serving with UNAMSIL and other peacekeeping operations of the United Nations to continue to give their best and maintain the high professional standards and excellence the Ghana Armed Forces has carved for itself and the nation through four decades of peacekeeping all over the world.

Lt. Colonel Musah promised that Ghanabatt 7 will continue to work diligently and prove worthy ambassadors for Ghana.
