The Times reports in its main front page story that the Ashanti Regional Police are looking for Twum Dampare, Registrar of the Kumasi Circuit Tribunal, in connection with the disappearance of over 20 million cedis from the tribunal’s coffers. He is said to have vacated his post soon after the loss of the money was detected last month. Police sources said in Kumasi yesterday that the money represented fines and other payments to the tribunal. The Times says according to the sources, the suspect who had the money in his custody, confessed to officials of the Judicial Service in Kumasi that he had made use of some money when he was informed of plans to audit the accounts. The Times reports in its inside pages that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will, before the end of the year, introduce a unique Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), under a computerised system, aimed at making it difficult for tax-dodgers to evade payment. Mr. David Adom, IRS Commissioner, disclosed this to the Times yesterday in Accra during an interview on measures being taken by the Service to maximise revenue collection for the state.
