“Women priest rejected…In Anglican Church”, is the headline of the lead story on the front page of the Times which says the first session of the sixth synod of the Koforidua-Ho diocese of the Anglican Church has rejected the ordination of women as priests in the church. The decision of the synod, the Times says was read by the Most Reverend Robert Okine, Anglican Bishop of the Province of West Africa, at an ordination service to climax the synod at the koforidua Saint Peter’s Cathedral. In another front page story the Times quotes the Tamale Municipal Police Commander, Mr. Isaac Ofei as saying that chiefs have no power to settle criminal cases in their courts. To this end the Police Commander has directed that all such cases should be referred to the police for prosecution. Mr. Ofei was briefing the Tamale Municipal Assembly on the security situation in the area. GRi
The Times reports on its back page that the Ashanti Region Police Command, at the weekend took over the Ejisu police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the destruction of the foundation and profile of 34 housing units under construction at Akyawkrom near Ejisu by two truck loads of thugs suspected to be “machomen” , last Sunday. The Times quoted Mr. S.B. Mettle, Acting Ashanti Police Commander as saying the transfer of the docket is to enable the “Regional Police headquarters to carry out full-scale enquiry into this serious case. Mr. Mettle is reported to have said the case would be thoroughly investigated and “the alleged perpetrators hunted down and brought to justice”. GRi
