Ghanaian students in Russia to picket over lack of funds

Over 200 Ghanaian students on scholarship in Russia have threatened to picket at Ghana’s embassy in that country if government fails to release stipends.

According to the students, the government has defaulted in releasing the living allowance over eight months.

Some students have resorted to borrowing using their passports as collaterals whilst others have already been kicked out of their hostels due to their inability to pay hostel fees and acquire their medical insurances.

The students have given government a one-week ultimatum to release the funds or face demonstration at the Ghanaian embassy in Russia.

Galodum-bene Pua-Bali, the students’ leader in Moscow Russia said all efforts to get the Akufo-Addo led government to ensure that their stipends are paid have proved futile.
