A body was found wedged between a car and a Central Islip (USA) home Tuesday morning, police said.
A Medford man was found shot dead Tuesday morning, slumped over the trunk of a car parked in a Central Islip driveway, Suffolk police said.
Dexter Acheampong, 24, had been shot at least once, according to police.
Around 5:47 a.m., a resident of East Maple Street called 911 to report finding a body between a car in the driveway and the garage door, Det. Edward Fandrey said.
The body turned out to be Acheampong, who had wedged himself in the space, possibly in an attempt to escape, police said.
Acheampong’s uncle, Ben Smith, 45, of Medford, said he hadn’t seen his nephew in about a month. “He’s a very good kid. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Smith said.
Acheampong moved from his native Oklahoma City about three years ago and lived sporadically with his uncle and three nieces, his family said.
He was unemployed, Smith said.
“He helped us with our homework. We could talk to him about problems we couldn’t talk to our parents about,” said Vanessa Smith, 16, Acheampong’s niece.
The investigation is ongoing.
