Ghanaian restaurant opens in Chicago

The Palace Restaurant, owned and operated by Maame Abena Adutwumwaa opened on the north side of Chicago at 4548 N. Magnolia, the corner of Magnolia and Wilson Avenue, just two blocks from Harry Truman College. Maame Abena is not new to the restaurant business which she learned from her uncle and has been in the business for over 20 years. At it’s grand opening ceremony a host of Ghanaians got a taste of affordable Ghanaian dishes which has eluded the Ghanaian Community for a while.

The palace Gate Restaurant is opened 7 days a week from 10 am to 8pm from Mondays to Wednesdays and from 10am to 9pm from Thursdays to Sunday. The dish selection was unimaginable for a restaurant this size. There were appetizers like Spicy Chicken wings, Khebab, dishes from Deehuo, Konkonte (Lapiwaa) served with Peanut Butter Soup and Okro, Fish Stew, Banku, Fufu, Ampesi, Rice (Joloff or plain) and Waakye.

Since there were no prices on the menu customers expected huge bills for their orders. It cost only $41.00 for a table of 6 ordering Waakye, konkonte, Joloff Rice, Ampesi, 6 bottles of Malt and six sticks of Khebab. I wonder if there is a restaurant that can beat that. It would help the restaurant and customers alike if suggested prices are put on the menu against the orders so customers would have an idea of what they are spending.
