Kumasi, Oct. 5, GNA – The Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kankanka, Bishop of Kumasi Methodist Diocese, has called on Ghanaian Leaders to adopt quality leadership skills to ensure the socio-economic development of the nation.
He noted that it was high time they re-examined themselves to know the challenges facing the country rather than concentrating solely on partisan politics, which at times resulted in divisions and conflicts among people.
Rev Safo-Kantanka made the call when he was delivering a lecture on the sixth Senavoes Memorial Lectures organised by the Christian Service University College (CSUC) in Kumasi on the theme: “An unexamined life is not worth living.”
The lecture formed part of activities to commemorate Mr and Mrs Senavoes, for contributing immensely towards the establishment of the CSUC in Kumasi.
He stressed the need for people in leadership positions to respect the Constitution and the Rule of Law to ensure that they are workable. Rev Safo-Kantanka emphasised the need for them take stock of their activities at all times and adopt effective and pragmatic measures to improve on their performance. He asked the country’s leaders to ensure open administration and listen to the views and opinions of others to help promote good governance and democracy. “Your ability as a leader is to create an enabling environment to woo investors to invest in viable ventures and provide employment opportunities for the people to enhance their living conditions,” he noted.
Rev Safo-Kantanka said it is important for leaders to work in unity with the people and avoid autocratic leadership which would impede development. He said good leaders should have foresight to predict the future and solve problems confronting the nation. He charged the University authorities to refrain from favouritism and other negative tendencies, which would affect the growth and development of the university.
