Ghanaian in Italy kills one, injures four in pickaxe attack

This morning in the Niguarda neighborhood of Milan an immigrant from Ghana killed one person and injured four others (two seriously) with a pickaxe before he was stopped by police, according to Italian newspaper Il Giornale.

Preliminary information obtained by the newspaper suggests the attacks were random and without apparent motive. A man of about 40 years old died in hospital in the clinic Città Studi while two others, including a 64-year-old man, are in a serious condition. A 21-year-old boy was wounded in the back but is in a stable condition, according to the newspaper’s report.

The attacks happened in via Adratico around 6.30am this morning. The attacker wounded the 64-year-old man in the head and soon after he went to the streets of Belloveso where he lashed out at the 40-year-old man, stabbing him repeatedly, also in the head. Soon after he went in via Monte Rotondo where he struck a 19-year-old boy in the neck and back, causing serious injuries.

Passers-by tried to stop the attacker and they called the police who intervened and arrested him while he was still holding the pickaxe. He was taken to the police station for questionining. The attacker, who was said to be in a state of agitation, did not say anything to the military.

The killer is so far known only as ‘Mada K.’ and is a young Ghanaian and with a history of robbery, theft and resisting a public officer. He was reported in 2011, in Puglia, and ordered to be deported. The newspaper report does not make it clear why he was still in Italy even though a deportation order had been given.
