Ghanaian elected Students’ President in Scottish University

Accra, June 3, GNA – Mr Abednego Bandim, a 27 year-old Ghanaian has been elected Student President of the Robert Gordon University, the first time an international student, a Ghanaian had been elected to such a post in the North-East of Scotland.

A statement the Press and Public Affairs Section of the British High Commission issued in Accra on Thursday said Mr Bandim, who is currently studying for a Masters Degree in International Information Technology Law, decided to run for student president because he was extremely interested in the activities of students and what they were receiving in terms of welfare needs such as food, accommodation and transport. It said Mr Bandim’s main objective was to form a student general assembly to brainstorm and debate issues relating to the overall welfare of the students both academically and socially.

He said: “If students unite and have one voice we will be able to achieve a great amount. I passionately believe that every student and young person must make the most of their God-given talents. Whatever they may be, students should demonstrate a high sense of discipline and work hard in their academic endeavour and strike a balance between social and academic activities.”

The statement said Mr Bandim referred to his election as a glowing example of the beauty of democracy and tribute not only to Robert Gorgon University but also in its entirety. Mr Bandim’s tenure begins on August 1, 2004. 03 June 04
