Ghanaian dies after Metrolink accident

An investigation into the accident is under way A 24-year-old man has died after he was knocked down by a tram in Manchester city centre.

Penda Otoo-Kati, of Parsonage Road, Withington, was hit by the tram near the G-Mex, at the junction of Windmill Street and Lower Moseley Street.

He was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead.

Police have begun an inquiry and are appealing for any witnesses to the accident, which happened just after midnight on Saturday, to contact them.
