Ghanaian caught at Detroit airport smuggling $400,000 worth of heroin

Customs officials at Detroit Metropolitan Airport seized 1.8 kilos, or 4 pounds of heroin from a passenger’s luggage Tuesday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

The illicit drugs have a street value of $400,000, according to a release issued by the seizing agency.

They were removed from the luggage of a Ghana resident who was flying into Detroit from Amsterdam, Netherlands.

“The relentless efforts and dedication of front-line CBP employees has resulted in the interdiction of these illicit drugs, preventing them from reaching the streets and doing harm,” said Devin Chamberlain, Customs and Border Patrol port director.

The suspects has been arrested and transferred to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is in charge of prosecution.
