Ghanaian Capt. in the Canadian Forces of to Afghanistan

Capt (Rev) Felix Tachie, a chaplain in the Canadian Forces based at CFB Petawawa, is among the deployment to Afghanistan as part of the Canadian contingent mandated to assist the Afghan people regain their freedom, liberty and normal way of life.

He is one of four chaplains deployed to provide pastoral care to our men and women in uniform. Capt. (Rev) Tachie also serves an advisor to the Commanding Officer, LCol Bob Chamberlain, CD, regarding ethical, moral and spiritual issues affecting the soldiers. The Capt, a Joint Task Force Afghanistan Roto 3 chaplain particularly provides pastoral ministry to the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) based at Camp Nathan Smith, Kandahar. Other elements of the JTF-Afg Roto 3 include The National Command Element, The Battle Group, and The National Support Element.

Using a holistic approach to counseling and pastoral care, the Capt draws from experience, psycho-social and biblical perspectives to minister to the troops. His pastoral mandates include chapel service, commemorative service, advocacy, pastoral counseling, liaison with other chaplains in Canada, repatriation of wounded and fallen soldiers, pastoral visit to operating zones and networking with NGO’s and Afghan religious and community leaders.

At his home unit in Petawawa, Capt Tachie is the chaplain to the Royal Canadian Dragoons, a Recce Regiment. Prior to his deployment, the Capt trained with the soldiers in the field at CFB Gagetown NB, CFB Petawawa ON, Canadian Manouvre Training Centre in Wainwright AB and Sunnybook Hospital, Toronto for trauma.
