Ghanaian and British troops to hold joint exercises

Accra, Aug. 20, GNA – Troops of the Ghana Armed Forces will hold joint exercises with their British counterparts in the Akim Achiase and Bundase areas from August 26 to October 10, this year. A statement signed by Colonel E W K Nibo, Director of the Armed Forces Public Relations Directorate, called on the public not to panic with troop movements in the areas during the period since there was no cause for alarm.

It said that the exercise code-named, “EX WESTERN RHUMBA 04” is a bilateral training programme aimed at practicing tactics, techniques and procedures required to operate in a jungle environment.

The troops who would be based at the Jungle Warfare School (JWS) at Achiase in the Eastern Region, would also undertake advance training in helicopter drills, water-man-ship and shooting at Bundase.

The engineering personnel supporting the exercise would also undertake civic action programmes involving the construction of a school and repair of bridges and training facilities within the exercise area.
