Ghana/Togo border not closed

The Ministry of Communications has denied reports that Ghana had closed its border with Togo at Aflao because of the impending elections in the neighbouring country.

A statement issued in Accra on Friday by the Ministry and signed by the Communications Minister, Dr Edward Omane-Boamah said the reports are completely untrue as no such action has been taken.

The Ministry assured the public that “there are no threats to the security of Ghana emanating from Togo due to the impending elections which would warrant closure of our side border”.

According to the statement, Ghana’s position is without prejudice to whatever security decisions the Republic of Togo would take ahead of tomorrow’s elections.
