Ghana to participate in World Foundation of UN Associations

Accra, Nov 5, GNA – All is set for Ghana to participate in the plenary World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) scheduled for Buenos Aires, Argentina, from November 7 to 10. Mr Emmanuel Nana Amua-Sekyi, Secretary General of the Ghana United Ghana Association (UNA-Ghana), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the plenary is the highest decision making body of the WFUNA.

Member countries and their General Secretaries meet every four years to plan the activities of the Federation.

He said Ghana’s participation had come just two months after she was elected the best United Nations Association (UNA) for the Africa region for September.

This followed a competition that was based on innovations and how the UNA was able to articulate the views of the United Nations to the public.

Mr Amua-Sekyi said the agenda for the plenary would be the establishment of the youth wing of the WFUNA, general elections and the amendment of the WFUNA constitution.

The plenary would also discuss the new draft publication “the UN- Our Hope” that touches on basic information on the UN, UNA-Ghana and out-going UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Mr Amua-Sekyi said the last plenary held in Barcelona, Spain, was able to build the European and African consensus to empower regional blocs to elect their leaders instead of appointment by the Secretary General of the WFUNA.

He said the new move was able to establish the holding of power from the grass-root level instead of a top down administration. 05 Nov 06
