Ghana to observe World Water Day.

Accra, March 17, GNA – Ghana will celebrate this years’ World Water Day under the theme “Water and Disaster”.

The day celebrated on March 22 each year would be marked by a durbar at Nsawam where the United Nations (UN) and Ghana Flags shall be hoisted by the UN Representative and the Minister of Works and Housing respectively.

A Press Release issued in Accra on Wednesday said, The Ghana Water Company Limited would also hold open days in all the regions, the Community Water and Sanitation Agency will host a programme in Tamale while Radio and TV talk shows would be held.

The event was established by United Nations General Assembly in December 1992, is aimed at focusing attention on water and to remind everybody that increase awareness world-wide of the problems and solutions, can make a difference.

It said, that could be achieved with better decision making, improved planning, effective risk management, innovation in development and environmental protection activities.

The Release signed by Miss Adwoa VAN-Ess, Public relations Officer, Water Resources Commission, suggested that risk assessment and disaster reduction should be made integral part of all sustainable development policies.
