Ghana To Co-Chair Meeting On Cote D’ivoire

The Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nana Akufo-Addo, MP, will depart Accra on Wednesday, 28th February, 2007 to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire for the 13th Ministerial meeting of the International Working Group on Cote d’Ivoire, (IWG). In view of Ghana’s new position as Chair of the African Union, the Hon. Minister is expected to assume the co-chairmanship of the International Working Group (IWG). The Hon. Minister will take over from H.E. Mr. Rudolph Adada, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Congo.

Ghana will now co-chair all subsequent meetings of the International Working Group (IWG) and chair the Mediation Group in accordance with the United Nations Resolution on Cote d’Ivoire.

The 13th Ministerial Meeting of the International Working Group will among other issues update members on the security situation in Ivory Coast, the Ivorian Prime Minister, will also update members on the overall peace process.
