Ghana to celebrate independence

The 47th Independence anniversary would be celebrated under the theme: “Discipline, Tolerance and Honesty-Essential Qualities for Deepening Democracy in Ghana.”

The week-long activities include Moslem prayers in all mosques in the country on Friday, February 27 followed by Veterans Day Parade on Saturday February 28.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday by the Information Services Department, said the celebrations would continue on Wednesday, March 3 with the finals of the annual independence anniversary schools debate between Presbyterian Secondary School, Legon and Prempeh College, Kumasi at the Teacher’s Hall in Accra.

On March 5, prizes would be presented to the winners of the debate and Independence Day awards to deserving students from the 10 regions, by the President at the Banquet Hall. The celebrations would be climaxed by a colourful parade of security services, school children at the Independence Square on Sarturday, March 6 Saturday.

The celebrations ends on Monday, March 8 with a Military Open Day, which is open to the general public.

Similar activities would be held throughout the country.
