Ghana to achieve universal water coverage by 2025 – Minister

Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, has said the Government intends to achieve a universal water coverage by the end of 2025.

He said in order to achieve this target, the Government was embarking on numerous projects in the sector nationwide.

Dr Agyemang- Mensah made this known when he inspected the ongoing water supply project at Akim Oda and Akwatia in the Eastern Region.

He said President Mahama was determined to ensure that every Ghanaian got good drinking water, hence the massive investment in the sector.

He urged the contractor of the project to liaise with the various assemblies as it carried out the project to ensure they met the deadline.

Mr Frederick Akuffo-Boafo, the Resident Engineer for the Akwatia Project, gave the assurance that the Project would be completed on schedule.

He said materials for the project, with labour, were fully available to ensure the smooth running of the project.

The Akim Oda, Akwatia and Winneba Water Supply Projects have a contract value of $ 164,935,602.55, with the Turkish Exim Bank providing 158,958,474.38, and the Government providing $28,970,899.38.

The project is being executed by ARDA Muhendislik Sanayi,Tic Sti and is expected to be completed by April 30, next year.
