Sunyani, Dec 9, GNA – Ghana Telecom (GT) is to spend about 40 million dollars to expand its network to cover all districts in the Brong Ahafo by 2005.

Every town in the region, where there is a senior secondary school, will be provided with telephone lines to enable the students to study information technology.

Mr Oystein Bjorge, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company who announced this in Sunyani, said the project was part of GT’s projections to provide 400,000 telephone lines to most parts of the country.

The CEO, who was in the Brong Ahafo Region to interact with staff of the company, was briefing newsmen about the company’s plans for the region. He said the first stage of the company’s expansion programme would begin next year whilst the second stage will start in 2005.

Mr. Bjorge said the company would continue to provide payphones in smaller communities to make telephone services accessible to as many people as possible.

Mr. J. A Boateng, Brong Ahafo Regional Head of the Company, said the company is installing modern equipment to replace the outmoded ones to ensure the elimination of all anomalies in its services.
