Ghana, Sub-Regional Leader – Minister

Accra Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, has said that Ghana has almost become a sub- regional leader due to the democratisation process adopted by the government. Alhaji Mumuni made this remark when Mr Hans Duncke, Resident Director of Friedrich Ebert Foundation, paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Accra.

He said the country’s democracy is growing fast and is becoming a shining example to many African countries. The Minister congratulated the foundation for the help it had given in achieving this objective. Alhaji Mumuni appealed to the foundation to help foster a good relationship between the government and the Trades Union Congress, saying “with your background from Germany, I believe you can help build a new orientation for the labour sector.” Mr Duncke enumerated a number of organizations the foundation has been working with in the past years such as the Electoral Commission, NAFTI and the Ghana News Agency.

He said their work in the country now would place emphasis on strengthening non-governmental organizations especially women’s groups, in alleviating poverty in the rural areas. The Resident Director said his outfit is looking forward to working as partners with the ministry. Gri
