Ghana sends message of condolence to UN

Accra, Aug. 21, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor, on Thursday sent a message of condolence to the UN on the death of Mr. Sergio Vieira De Mello and several other UN staff killed on Tuesday August 19, this year in an explosion at the UN offices in Bagdhad.

A message signed by Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s Foreign Minister and sent to the UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, President Kufuor said ” these persons were engaged in the noble task of assisting with the reconstruction of Iraq and it was unthinkable that they would be the target of cruel and senseless assassins.”

“I wish to convey on behalf of the government and people of Ghana and on my own behalf, our deepest sympathies and condolences to you and through you to the families of the deceased for this tragic loss. May the souls of these persons rest in perfect peace.

Accept your, Excellency the assurances of my highest consideration, the message said.
