The Ghana Scout Association (GSA) on Wednesday declared its preparedness to support the youth of the country to promote peace for national development.
The Association called on all political parties, religious organisations and the National Peace Council (NPC) to help ensure the peaceful co-existence of the people, and asked Ghanaians to eschew personal attacks and violence, and rather dwell on issues that would help develop the nation.
Mr George Yaw Manful, Chief Commissioner, GSA, who made the appeal at a media encounter in Accra on Wednesday, observed that though Election 2012 was conducted peacefully, the declaration of the winner of the presidential polls had left Ghanaians with some notably disturbing incidents.
He said in order to maintain the peace that existed in the country prior to the elections, it is important for winners of the elections to celebrate modestly without any provocation.
Mr Manful cautioned supporters of parties that had issues with the electoral process to exercise restraint and redress through the court.
He said scouts were committed to promoting national development by creating employable opportunities for the youth to improve their standard of living.
“Any form of violence would definitely not augur well for us. In our view as scouts, it is crucial that we follow the structures to work, since we have only one Ghana”, Mr Manful said.
He called on Ghanaians to adhere to peace calls from civil society groups, the NPC, students and the Kumasi peace declaration and other initiatives.
Mr Manful stressed the need for religious organizations, civil society organizations, individuals, institutions and companies to collaborate to help develop the talents of young people.
