The prevalent rate of HIV/AIDS has significantly dropped from 3.6 per cent to 3.1 per cent, the director-general of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Professor Sakyi Awuku Amoa has announced.
Briefing a 12-member delegation of the parliamentary network of the World Bank in Accra last Monday, he said that ?if we work a little harder, we will be able to bring down the prevalence rate much further.?
The network is made up of representatives of parliaments in 14 countries, including Ghana, who visit other states to study World Bank projects on poverty alleviation and HIV/AIDS.
Prof Amoa reviewed the Ghana AIDS fund project of 25 million dollars loan facility from the International Development Agency which the commission had been implementing since 2001. He noted that the country had achieved 100 per cent awareness creation and only needed to increase interventions to achieve complete behavioral change in the population.
