Ghana Re denies EC boss board membership

The Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited has said the embattled chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei, is no longer a board member of the company.

A pressure group, the Progressive Nationalist Forum, has called for the immediate resignation of Osei for keeping another job.

According to the group, the Chairperson of the EC is in breach of article 44 clause 4 of the 1992 constitution which states “the chairman and the two deputy chairmen of the commission shall not, while they hold office on the commission, hold any other public office.”

“We demand that Madam Commissioner resigns her post as member of the board of directors of Ghana Reinsurance Company or as the Chairman of the electoral commission with immediate effect,” a statement from the group said.

However, the Secretary of Ghana Re, Madam Jessica Allotey, has denied the claim, saying Mrs Osei stopped being a director as of the end of December 2015.

“I can confirm to you that as at 7th January that is today’s date she is no longer a member of Ghana Reinsurance board,” Allotey told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“As at December 2015, I can tell you that as at the end of December she was not a director of Ghana Re.”
