Accra, 10 Aug, GNA – Fifty-one drivers from the Ghana Prisons Service establishment through out the country ended three-day training in driving management science and road safety in Accra.
The participants were taken through topics including drivers’ habits and ethics, customer care, physics of driving, communication skills, motor risk and insurance, HIV/AIDS, road signs and markings, vehicle maintenance, diving techniques and safe driving.
The Director of Prisons (DP) in Charge of Human Resource Anthony K Yebuah in a speech read on his behalf by Assistant Director of Prisons. (ADP) S.K.B Rabbles, Commandant of the Prisons Officers Training College, advised the drivers to translate the experience, skills and knowledge acquired through the training into positive attitudes and habits to raise the image of the Service.
DP Yebuah cautioned the drivers against using vehicles of the Prisons without permission or for unauthorised duties since it could result in fuel wastage but
he pledged the support of the Prisons administration for them if they work professionally.
Mr. Kofi Baah Acheamfuor, General Manager of Road Safety and Transportation Consultancies Limited, the event coordinator, advised the participants to exhibit a significant change in attitude and an improve their driving skills to encouraged the Prisons authorities to organise more training for them..
The course prefect, Assistant Chief Officer (ACO) Issaka Mohammed, on behalf of his colleagues, commended the Acting Director General of Prison, Mr. Michael Kofi Bansah and the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Godfred Akyea-Dankwah for ensuring the success of the event.
He noted “The course has refreshed our minds and skills as drivers, and you will see improvement in our habits to ensure safe driving”.
ACO Mohammed, however, called on the authorities to extend subsequent training period to enable participants to learn more about traffic techniques and regulations..
He appealed to the Ghana Prisons Service to ensure regular servicing of vehicles, adequate provision of fuel, transit accommodation for all drivers who undertake assignments outside duty posts, increase their allowance and ensure regular medical check ups for drivers, to enable them work effectively.
The programme is the second of four training courses planned for Ghana Prisons Service drivers drawn from all Prisons establishment in the country and the third dubbed ‘Intake 3″ is scheduled to begin on the September 1, 2010.
