Ghana Post must go modern – Minister

Accra, Dec. 13, GNA – Mr Fred Opare Ansah, Deputy Communications Minister has tasked the management of the Ghana Post (GP) to change its business strategy to conform to current communications trends. That, he said, would enable the GP to stay abreast and get ahead of the competition in the industry and to provide more efficient services to clients.

Mr. Ansah was interacting with the management of the GP at its head office in Accra on Thursday when he visited the establishment to acquaint himself with working conditions and challenges facing it.

He however, commended the GP for performing creditably till date despite the numerous challenges facing its operations, but expressed the need for it to constantly review and improve on its quality of service particularly in monitoring and the security of mails. The Deputy Minister also exhorted the institution to take action to expand its services to other parts of the country. He assured the management that government was putting in the necessary measures to revamp the entity to improve its delivery system. Mr Kofi Duah Adonteng, Post Master General told the Minister that innovations on the technological scene, particularly the use of mobile phones and the internet, was threatening the work of the GP because such innovations made it easier for people to communicate more conveniently and faster than using the post.

He said the GP was also being challenged by other competitors and that the bane of the GP was its “old industry approach.” He appealed to government to give the GP the necessary support to make it a viable entity. The Minister toured all the departments of the GP.
