The Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service has re-arrested a 41-year-old Chinese woman, Zhu Dan, suspected of dealing in cocaine in Kumasi. The suspect was initially released on Sunday night after allegedly bribing police officers, but was re-arrested on Monday, June 16, 2025.
According to sources, the suspect was arrested at the KTV Cafe in Daaban, a suburb of Kumasi, while allegedly trading in cocaine. However, she was released after paying a bribe to the police officers.
“I’m disappointed in the conduct of my officers,” a police source said. “The woman was arrested while trading in cocaine. That is a fact no one can deny.”
The suspect was re-arrested after the police became aware of an investigation into the matter. ASP Fraser Nutakor, the Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit Commander, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect was arraigned before the Kwadaso Circuit Court on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The court granted her bail in the sum of GH₵400,000 with two sureties, one to be justified.
ASP Nutakor denied taking a bribe to kill the case, saying, “Whatever you have heard is not true. It is just hearsay because the suspect is in custody.” He added that a test conducted in his office confirmed that the substance was cocaine, and a sample has been sent to Accra for a forensic test.
The police have remained silent on the matter, withholding details from the public and the media. The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Unit Command has also denied knowledge of the arrest and subsequent court developments, sparking questions about the police’s handling of the case.
