Ghana pledges support for the road map to peace in the Middle East

Accra, July 25, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday, pledged Ghana’s support to the road map for peace in the Middle East. He said ” Ghana pledges her support to the road map to peace in the Middle East and should be pursued in all sincerity for peace to return to the area”.

President Kufuor made the pledge when he received the Letters of Credence of Mr. Daniel Kedem, Ambassador-designate of Israel to Ghana but resident in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire at the Castle, Osu.

He said government would seek the assistance of Israel to reactivate the Accra Sewerage System, which began during the Second Republic to improve on the sanitation in the Accra Metropolis.

President Kufuor said the relationship between both countries since 1958 would be improved and commended Israel for its assistance during the First Republic, especially in the establishment of the Black Star Line and the agricultural sector.

He said assistance would be sought from Israel for the irrigation of the Accra Plains.

Mr. Kedem said the Israeli government was committed to peace in the Middle East and efforts would be made to achieve this objective. He said Israel had supported the food processing and the construction industry in Ghana in the past and during his tenure more would be done in those sectors.
