Accra, July 30, GNA- Government on Thursday affirmed that a crude oil deal with Nigeria is on course.
The technical agreement between Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), is nearing completion, a statement issued by Mr James Agyenim- Boateng, Deputy Minister of Information in Accra gave the affirmation. It said the decision by Nigeria to supply 60,000 barrels of crude oil to Ghana daily was reached during discussions between President John Atta Mills and his Nigerian counterpart, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. “When news of Nigeria’s agreement at the government to government level to supply Ghana with oil was communicated from Abuja, it was also announced that the technical teams of both countries would have to work out the details.”
The statement said GNPC and NNPC officials were currently finalising the details and contract.
“Once the details and contract are finalized, the allocation will be factored into the lifting plan of the NNPC, which is done every two months. The statement denied media reports that the oil deal was in limbo.
