Ghana needs long term development plan – Prof. Ayee

Professor Joseph Ayee, Rector of Mountcrest University College, Accra, on Monday noted that Ghana needs a long term development planning for its social, economic and political growth.

He said unfortunately, leadership in the country was characterized by short-term political goals, which could-not live beyond the tenure of a political party’s stay in office, preventing sustained growth.

Prof. Ayee said this at the J. B. Danquah Memorial Lectures, which is currently going on in Accra from February 25t, to 27th, 2013 on the theme, “Leadership in the Ghanaian State Today-Reflections and Perspectives.”

He noted that since the country gained independence “Ghana has not had a development plan, apart from “Vision 2020”.

Prof. Ayee said the country needed leadership that was visionary and demanded excellence for national progress.

He said it was important for the country’s leaders to see beyond their tenure of office and contribute to the long-term development of the country.

Prof. Ayee said this was the only means by which leadership could contribute to sustained and dependable growth.
