Reverend Sammy A. Amoako, the Moderator for Ho East Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church said Ghana needed a strong and confident ‘Joshua’ to deal with ‘powerful people’ destroying the country’s environment.
Speaking at the Eighth Ho- East Presbytery Synod on the theme “Breaking New Grounds- Revisited: Now is Our Turn,” he said, “galamsey is the worst form of breaking new grounds to have hit Ghana.
The great harm being done to society at large far outweighs any individual benefit.”
Reverend Amoako bemoaned how water bodies were being polluted by the activities of illegal miners and warned of looming health hazards.
He said there was the need for a total change in attitude of the citizenry to value the real worth of human beings and how those activities negatively affected them.
Reverend Amoako also warned the people to desist from human trafficking especially on the Volta Lake, which he said was claiming young lives and casting a slur on the Region.
Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Member of Parliament for Akatsi North asked Christians to be good ambassadors of Christ and protect the environment.
