Ghana Navy honours Commodore Godson Koblah Zowonoo

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Geoffrey Biekro, has honoured the outgoing Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command, Commodore Godson Koblah Zowonoo, for his innovation.

He gave a facelift to the Command during his tenure of office, and was therefore named after a newly constructed maternity block at the Command, for his exemplary leadership.

Rear Admiral Biekro described Commodore Zowonoo as a selfless, humble, loyal, affable and transformational leader who embarked on a number of innovative projects at the Command.

Some of the projects initiated and executed by the naval officer included the construction of a maternity block using the old sailors Inn facility, which was abandoned for more than 20 years, fuel station, fence wall at Navy stores depot, wine and liquor shop, barbering shop,, tiling of offices of the Command’ administration block and asphalting the road to the new residence of the flag officer.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Biekro, announced this at the Change of Command and Pulling out Parade held in honour of Commodore Zowonoo, at the Sekondi Naval Base.

He urged his successor to continue the good works to ensure efficient operation and administration of the Command.

Commodore Godson Zowonoo was enlisted into the Ghana Military Academy at Teshie as a Naval Cadet in November 1976 for six months standard military training and went for further studies at Britannia Royal Naval College in Britain in 1977.

In 2009, he was promoted to the Flag Rank of Commodore and appointed the Flag Officer Fleet in charge of all the Ghana Navy ships.

He was appointed the Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command on 26th April 2013, with additional responsibility as the Garrison Commander for the Two Garrison and served in the military for almost 40 years.

Commodore Zowonoo holds a Master’s Degree in Conflict, Peace and Security from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and participated in peace keeping missions in ECOMOG in Liberia, Cambodia, Rwanda, and was a member of naval delegation to many international conferences around the world.
