Accra, Nov 26, GNA – Ghana needs about eight years of non-partisan approach to politics to help it unite for a national-based democratic governance system, a statement issued in Accra said on Friday. The statement was jointly signed by Pita Osei-Baidoo, International Secretary and Nana Addo Aikins, Legal Practitioner, to announce the formation of a new civil society organisation named “The People’s Independent Movement” (PIM).
It said the country also needed independent nationalists and patriots to strengthen its fragile democracy. The PIM, according to the statement, comprised human rights activists, concerned citizens and civil society activists who recognised the existing political system as partisan and polarised and were prepared to work for its transformation.
It said the movement would also help awaken, reconcile and complete the political struggle began by past heroes such as Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Dr J. B Danquah, and work for unity among all aspiring candidates to achieve radical social transformation.
