Ghana Muslim Academy Vacation School opens

Accra, Aug. 14, GNA-Mrs Mary Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Deputy Director of Education has called on students to cultivate the habit of self-discipline and obedience to enable them to achieve academic excellence and also to enhance effective teaching and learning. She said it is undeniable fact that no effective teaching and learning can take place in an atmosphere of indiscipline. Mrs Quaye made the call at the opening of this year’s Dr Ahmed Issaka Abdudai Free Vacation Classes for Junior High and Senior High School students in Accra on Thursday.

The classes, being organized by the Ghana Muslim Academy is under the theme; “Enhancing effective teaching and Learning: The Role of the Students.

Mrs Quaye said apart from the fact that students must cultivate a high sense of moral uprightness in order to perform well academically, they must also endeavour to stay within the rules and regulations of their various schools. She said rules and regulations in all schools and institutions under the Ghana Education Service (GES) were intended to help them to become the desired personalities the society wished to have at the end of their courses.

The Deputy Director of Education said it was through these rules and regulations that, “we are able to achieve the educational goals set for ourselves,” adding that, all disciplined students are able to endear themselves to their teachers and excel in their academic endeavours. She advised them to desist from examination malpractices, drug abuse and pre-marital sex which, she said, could cause them harm. Hajj Seth Ibrahim Owusu, President of the Ghana Muslim Academy, paid a tribute to the late Dr Issaka Abdulai who initiated the programme and appealed to the Ghana Education Service, corporate bodies and institutions to support the Academy to enable it to execute its programmes.
