The Ghana Muslim Academy on Monday called on the National Chief Imam, Sheik Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu to urgently issue a press statement calling on Muslims in Hohoe in the Volta Region to remain calm and cease fire following a violence clash between Muslims and Gbis.
A statement signed by Mr. Nurudeen Alhassan, President of the Academy, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said, Dr sharubutu should urge the Muslim Ummah in the town to exercise restraint and allow the security forces to take control of the situation.
It said the Ghana Muslim Academy had registered its profound concern regarding the violence that had erupted between Muslims and the Traditional authorities in Hohoe.
The statement said, “The provision of security, especially for Muslims who are being persecuted in town by the indigenes is important.”
It said the Ghana Muslim Academy hoped that Government would conduct investigations into the matter and deploy more security personnel to save life and property as well as establish peaceful co-existence among the people in the town. **
